The 1948 Harley-Davidson WL was powered by the 45 CI (750cc) side-valve V-twin engine and it was a very durable street model that looked very similar to Harley's Big Twin flatheads of the era. The air-cooled flathead was a favorite for its combination of durability and power. With roots going back to 1919 the W-series flathead was introduced in 1937 and included modern features like a recirculating oil system, a big improvement over the replacing total loss oil system. These bikes were produced until 1952.
