The 2024 Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival, held from November 1st to 3rd, 2024, was another captivating celebration of automotive artistry and engineering. This prestigious event, renowned for its stunning display of classic and exotic cars, once again transformed the picturesque island of Hilton Head into a haven for automotive enthusiasts.
Since its inception in 2002 it has become one of the premier events in the global automotive calendar, celebrating its rich history and enduring legacy. Inspired by the prestigious Concours d'Elegance events originating in France during the 17th century, Hilton Head's version retains the spirit of elegance, refinement, and innovation while embracing its unique Southern charm.
Initially conceived as a way to honor the artistry and heritage of classic automobiles, the event quickly grew into a multifaceted celebration of motoring culture. Over the years, it has gained a reputation for curating one of the most diverse and exquisite collections of vehicles, showcasing everything from pre-war classics and muscle cars to cutting-edge supercars and visionary concept designs.
The Concours d'Elegance tradition—literally meaning "competition of elegance" dates back to aristocratic displays of horse-drawn carriages in 17th-century Europe. Today, it celebrates meticulously restored and preserved vehicles, judged on criteria such as authenticity, aesthetics, and historical significance. The Hilton Head edition has elevated this tradition, offering a distinctive Lowcountry experience that blends world-class vehicles with the region's hospitality and culture.
A Symphony of Engines and Aesthetics
The Concours d'Elegance showcased a diverse array of vehicles, each a masterpiece in its own right. From sleek sports cars to elegant vintage automobiles, the exhibition floor was a visual feast. The judging process, conducted by a panel of esteemed automotive experts, was rigorous and meticulous. Each vehicle was evaluated based on its originality, condition, and historical significance. The winners were awarded prestigious trophies, recognizing their exceptional craftsmanship and rarity. The Top Awards for the 2024 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance were:
- Best of Show Concours d’Elegance - 1911 Oldsmobile Limited Touring Car, David and Patricia Peeler of Weddington, NC.
- Best of Show Concours de Sport - 1957 Ferrari 250 GT TdF, Frederick Fischer of Wildwood, MO.
- Paul Doerring Founder’s Award – 1965 Shelby Mustang GT-350, SFM5S003, Nicolas Smith, Stuart, FL.
- People’s Choice Award – 1929 Ford Model A Roadster, Devon Cole of Jacksonville, FL.
- William F. Hilton Award - To Founding Board Member Stew Brown of Hilton Head Island in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance and the legacy it leaves for the appreciation of automobiles and the community.
